King Charles and Queen Camilla Mark a Fresh Start with a Strongly Symbolic 2025 Christmas Card

The King and Queen have selected a particularly meaningful photograph for their official Christmas card this year.

Charles and Camilla chose an image taken on their 20th wedding anniversary, captured in the gardens of Villa Wolkonsky — the British ambassador’s residence in Rome — earlier this year. In the photo, the couple stand side by side, with the Queen gently linking her arm through the King’s.

The picture is presented inside the card with a deep red border, and opposite it sits the printed message, in matching colour: “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.”

The couple marked their milestone 20th wedding anniversary on 9 April 2025 while abroad on royal duty during their state visit to Italy, celebrating the evening as guests of honour at a grand banquet.

In the photograph, taken by royal photographer Chris Jackson, Camilla wears a white and beige coat dress by Anna Valentine along with a lily-of-the-valley brooch, while the King is dressed in a blue pinstripe suit, grey tie and a silk pocket square.

The image presents a united front from the couple after a turbulent end to the year, following the King’s decision to strip his brother of his royal titles. As a result, Andrew and his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, will not be joining the Christmas Day celebrations at Sandringham.

Where is the card sent?

The King and Queen distribute hundreds of Christmas cards each year, sending them to family and friends as well as world leaders, diplomats, charities and various organisations.

Big change to Christmas at Sandringham

Charles will soon be getting ready to host the wider royal family on Christmas Day, with the festivities traditionally held at Sandringham in Norfolk.

Last year, the Prince of Wales revealed that he spent the day with 45 members of his family “all in one room.”

But this year’s celebrations will undoubtedly feel different without the family members who will be absent. Traditionally, the royals walk to church on Christmas morning, enjoy a classic turkey lunch with all the trimmings, and then gather to watch the King’s Christmas broadcast on television.

Last year, Charles used his Christmas address to pay tribute to the “selfless” doctors and nurses who provided “strength, care and comfort” during cancer treatment for both himself and the Princess of Wales.
