Lady Louise Windsor celebrated her 22nd birthday on Saturday, marking another milestone for the young royal. While the palace has not revealed how she will be celebrating, it is expected that the occasion will be a private one, in keeping with her parents’ wish to give her as normal a life as possible. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have long been determined to shield their daughter from the spotlight while she continues her studies at St Andrews University.
Among those likely joining her for the celebrations is Felix da Silva-Clamp, who has been seen accompanying Lady Louise at several recent events.
Her birthday coincides with the royal family’s preparations for the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, which takes place on the eve of Armistice Day. The event pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice of British and Commonwealth Armed Forces, past and present.
It is not known whether Lady Louise will attend the ceremony this year; she has not done so previously, although her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, are regular attendees.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Lady Louise Windsor’s future as a working royal — with her mother, the Duchess of Edinburgh, previously admitting that her daughter is unlikely to take on official royal duties, and with Prince William’s plans to streamline the monarchy — the young royal’s lineage and character remain unmistakably regal.
An English literature student at St Andrews, Lady Louise has inherited many of the admirable qualities seen throughout the royal family. Among them is her passion for carriage driving, a beloved pastime she shared with her late grandfather, Prince Philip. It was the Duke of Edinburgh himself who taught her the skill, and in 2019, he proudly watched as his granddaughter claimed third place in the Private Driving Singles event at the Royal Windsor Horse Show — a touching moment that symbolised the bond between them.

Following Prince Philip’s passing, Lady Louise spoke warmly of her grandfather’s lasting influence in the BBC documentary Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers. Reflecting on their shared love of carriage driving, she said: “The Duke of Edinburgh has been so involved in my driving, which has been so lovely, although slightly scary because he invented the sport pretty much. It’s incredible to have learned first-hand from him.”
Her words offered a rare glimpse into their close bond — a relationship built on shared passion, respect, and admiration. Through her love of carriage driving, Lady Louise continues to honour her grandfather’s legacy, ensuring that his lifelong devotion to the sport lives on through her.
Meanwhile, Lady Louise is frequently likened to her aunt, Princess Anne — not just for their shared passion for horses, but also for their strong work ethic and deep sense of responsibility.
Over the past few years, she has made several notable appearances at major royal occasions, including the King’s coronation, Trooping the Colour, and the traditional Christmas Day church service at Sandringham — each time carrying herself with quiet poise and understated confidence that has drawn admiration from royal watchers.
