Prince Louis was among the many members of the British royal family who attended a festive gathering at Buckingham Palace on the afternoon of Tuesday, 16 December, as King Charles hosted a pre-Christmas lunch at the royal residence.
The young royal was seen arriving by car alongside his sister, Princess Charlotte, and his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales. It is also understood that his older brother, Prince George, was in attendance, although he was not photographed travelling with the rest of the immediate family.
As a writer on HELLO!’s Lifestyle desk, I closely follow the British royal family — particularly their fashion — and I couldn’t help but notice that Prince Louis was wearing something strikingly familiar, having been worn by his older brother just five years earlier.
The seven-year-old stepped out in an adorable navy and burgundy striped Ralph Lauren jumper layered over a crisp white collared shirt — the very same outfit Prince George wore to a pantomime performance of The National Lottery’s Pantoland at the London Palladium in December 2020.
The event was held to thank key frontline workers and their families for their dedication throughout the pandemic.
An especially sweet detail is that Prince George was also seven years old at the time of that appearance — meaning Prince Louis isn’t just rewearing his brother’s jumper, but doing so at the exact same age.

Each year, the King hosts a family meal at Buckingham Palace before the royals travel to Sandringham, the Norfolk estate where they traditionally spend Christmas Day together. It’s believed the monarch was especially pleased to see his son and daughter-in-law attend this year with their children, after the family missed the gathering last year.
At the time, HELLO! understood that Prince William, Kate, and their children had already travelled to Norfolk during last year’s event, choosing to spend the school holidays together as a family.
This year, the family returned to the event alongside several other royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh with their daughter Lady Louise Windsor, the Duke of Kent, Lady Sarah Chatto, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
The tradition of the annual festive meal was established by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who began hosting her family at Buckingham Palace before heading to Sandringham for the Christmas break. The gathering is often attended by extended members of the royal family who do not travel to Sandringham with the King.
Internationally recognised royal historian Marlene Koenig previously spoke to HELLO! about the family’s Christmas traditions, explaining how they continue to honour their German heritage. She revealed: “The British royals still follow the German tradition of opening presents on Christmas Eve.”
Koenig added: “Those who are at Sandringham exchange gifts, which are usually not expensive. The presents are laid out on trestle tables after tea time.”
