Trooping the Colour has marked the sovereign’s official birthday for more than 260 years and remains one of the most spectacular events in the royal calendar.

Each year, the ceremony showcases British military tradition on a grand scale, with more than 1,400 soldiers, around 200 horses and 400 musicians taking part in a display of precision marching, horsemanship and ceremonial pageantry.

The parade traditionally begins at Buckingham Palace and proceeds along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade.

The celebrations conclude with the royal family gathering on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the spectacular Royal Air Force fly-past, one of the most anticipated moments of the day.
