Catherine, Princess of Wales has long been recognised for her active lifestyle, but she exceeded expectations after completing the demanding Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend.
The 44-year-old climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) to raise funds for the The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she previously received cancer treatment.
In a video shared online by entrepreneur Phillip Tebajjwa, who was also climbing Snowdon that weekend, Kate was seen making her way down the mountain alongside her younger brother, James Middleton.
The Princess appeared to be wearing The North Face Summit Series Pacesetter hiking shorts, reportedly the £65 “Iron Clay” design identified by fashion blog Kate’s Closet.
The footage offered a rare glimpse of Kate’s toned and athletic legs, highlighting the physical preparation behind the demanding challenge.
Royal fans were quick to comment on social media, with many praising her impressive fitness and speculating about the training routine that helped prepare her for the gruelling trek.

Fans were quick to react to the footage on social media, with many praising Catherine, Princess of Wales’s fitness.
One person wrote: “The slender, toned, and divine legs this queen has, please.”
Another commented: “The training she has gone through to build up for this is not for the weak. You only have to look at the muscles in her legs to know that she works out a lot and definitely doesn’t skip leg day.”
During official engagements, Catherine, Princess of Wales is typically seen wearing tailored trouser suits or elegant midi and maxi skirts that fall well below the knee. On the rare occasions she opts for a shorter hemline, she usually pairs it with tights in keeping with long-standing royal style conventions, while maintaining a modest and polished appearance.
It is extremely rare to see members of the Royal Family wearing shorts, although they occasionally choose more casual clothing for private or informal occasions.
One notable example came in 2024, when Catherine, Princess of Wales and Prince William appeared in shorts in the Princess’s cancer recovery video. Kate paired her shorts with trainers and went bare-legged, reflecting the intimate and personal nature of the family footage.
For official engagements, however, royal style conventions are generally more formal. Hemlines are typically kept modest—often no more than around four inches above the knee—and tights are traditionally worn regardless of the season, although these are customs rather than strict written rules.
Although royal style conventions generally favour wearing tights during official appearances, there have been notable exceptions.
When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex announced her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017, she chose to appear without tights—a decision that attracted attention because it broke with the more traditional royal styling often seen at formal events.
Likewise, Diana, Princess of Wales frequently preferred to go bare-legged for public engagements, making it one of her signature style choices despite long-standing royal fashion conventions.
The endurance challenge saw Catherine, Princess of Wales walk 23 miles, climb a total elevation of 3,064 metres and travel 462 miles between the three mountain locations.
In addition to hiking, Catherine, Princess of Wales is also said to have attended CrossFit classes in the past and has reportedly held a membership at the Harbour Club in London.
She is also a keen runner. Speaking to The Telegraph, Mike Tindall said: “They’re just a family who love sport. Catherine loves her running.”
The Princess is well known for her passion for a wide range of sports, including tennis, rugby, sailing and basketball. Her active lifestyle and commitment to fitness are likely to have played a key role in preparing her for the demanding Three Peaks Challenge.
