Princess Kate Shares Sweet Moment with 100-Year-Old Veteran — and Is Stunned by His Secret to a Long Life!

Princess Kate seems to have uncovered the secret to a long life — though it certainly takes effort.

On Tuesday, November 11, the Princess of Wales attended the Armistice Day Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum. Following the ceremony, she spent time with veterans who had served in the Second World War.

Kneeling beside 100-year-old veteran Bill Redston, Kate warmly held his hands as the two spoke. According to reporter Stephanie Wareham, the Princess asked him what he believed was the key to longevity. Redston credited staying active, revealing that he had completed the London Marathon at 65 and the New York City Marathon just a year later — something that left the royal visibly impressed.

While she may not have taken on a marathon herself, Princess Kate is known for her love of sport — from tennis and sailing to cold-water swimming and running — all part of her dedication to keeping fit and living well.

The Princess of Wales also shared a touching exchange with veteran Geoffrey Spencer, who once served in the Royal Air Force. In a lighthearted moment captured on video by reporter Stephanie Wareham, Kate admitted that her eldest son, 12-year-old Prince George, “knows more about aircraft than I do.”

During the ceremony, the Princess joined in a moment of silence before laying a wreath bearing a handwritten note that read, “In memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we will remember them.” She signed it simply, “Catherine.”

For the solemn occasion, Kate paired her tailored black coat and matching hat with a red poppy pin — the enduring emblem of remembrance worn to honour fallen servicemen and women. The poppy has been used since 1921 to mark Remembrance Day across the U.K. and Commonwealth nations, inspired by John McCrae’s poignant First World War poem “In Flanders Fields.”

The Armistice Day service at the National Memorial Arboretum is a long-standing royal tradition, with members of the British royal family attending each year. However, this year marked Princess Kate’s first time taking part in the ceremony.

While the event is typically attended by a blood royal — a member of the family directly in the line of succession — Kate is not the first royal spouse to represent the family on the day. Spouses have occasionally joined their partners or attended in their stead, with Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, notably representing the royal family alone at last year’s service.

Princess Kate also took part in a series of Remembrance events with the royal family over the weekend. On Saturday, she attended the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, where she was accompanied by her eldest son, Prince George, who made his debut at the poignant event. Prince William was unable to attend as he was returning from his trip to Brazil.

The following day, the Princess joined senior royals for the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London. While King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Edward laid wreaths in tribute to the fallen, Princess Kate stood alongside Queen Camilla and the Duchess of Edinburgh on a nearby balcony, watching the ceremony in solemn reflection.
