The Royal Family may be bracing for trouble ahead if and when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make a visit to the UK later this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been based in the United States since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, where they have been raising their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
However, reports suggest that Prince William and Kate Middleton have brought in a crisis-management specialist in anticipation of any possible return to the UK by the Sussexes.
According to The Mail on Sunday, the Prince and Princess of Wales have hired Liza Ravenscroft, who has extensive experience in handling high-profile reputational issues. Ravenscroft is said to have been recommended by Julian Payne, a former communications secretary to King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and now the CEO of Edelman.
A source suggested that “it is unlikely to be a coincidence that one of William’s most senior and highly regarded staff members has stepped into a key role within his office following a turbulent period, particularly at a time when there is a push for closer coordination between Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace as attention turns to William’s eventual succession.”
The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor and royal commentator, Richard Eden, also speculated that the Waleses may be aware that “there could be trouble ahead”. He said that recent reports about the Sussexes’ potential return to the UK “appear designed to put pressure on the King and the wider Royal Family to extend a warm welcome to Harry and Meghan, despite the California-based couple never having apologised for what he described as their disgraceful attacks.”
