Royal Rankings Surprise Fans as 2025’s Hardest-Working Royal Is Finally Named

Princess Anne is no longer the hardest-working royal of 2025, having been overtaken by her brother, the King, according to new research.

While the Princess Royal — long known for topping the list of royal engagements — may have worked across more days this year, she ultimately carried out fewer official duties than the monarch, despite his ongoing cancer treatment.

King Charles has now been named the hardest-working royal of 2025, completing 532 engagements over the course of 12 months — 50 more than Princess Anne, who undertook 478.

Analysis by the Mirror of the Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements, shows that the King accounted for 22% of the 2,458 total engagements carried out during the year.

Third place went to their brother, Prince Edward, who completed 313 engagements, while his wife, Duchess Sophie, ranked fourth with a total of 235 engagements.

Queen Camilla placed fifth with 228 engagements in 2025. She was followed by the Duke of Gloucester in sixth place with 212 engagements, and the heir to the throne, Prince William, who completed 202 engagements over the year.

Prince Richard’s wife, the Duchess of Gloucester, ranked seventh with 113 engagements, while the Duke of Kent, now aged 90, carried out 77. Princess Catherine continued her steady return to public duties following her cancer treatment, recording 68 engagements during the year.

The research, compiled by royal expert Patricia Treble, includes all official engagements up to 18 December. It showed that the total number of royal engagements in 2025 rose by 22% compared with the previous year.

Individually, the King increased his workload by 49%, while the Princess of Wales saw a dramatic rise of 423% — from just 13 engagements in 2024 to 68 in 2025.

Ms Treble told the publication: “Given that he spent the entire year undergoing regular cancer treatment, the King truly set the pace for royal duty within the House of Windsor.”

She continued: “There’s a widespread perception that Anne is the hardest-working royal, but I would disagree. While the Princess Royal worked the greatest number of days in 2025 — 186 in total — it was her older brother who carried out the highest number of engagements, with 532.”

Ms Treble added: “The three siblings — Charles, Anne, and Edward — dominate the royal working year. They are the only members of the family to have completed more than 300 engagements each.”

She concluded: “In fact, Charles is the only royal to reach the 500s with 532 engagements as of December 18, Anne is the sole royal in the 400s with 478, and Edward is the only one in the 300s with 313.”

The royal family is now preparing to come together in just a few days’ time for Christmas Day at Sandringham, which traditionally includes the morning church service.
